Kilkenny LEADER Partnership (KLP) has long been committed to placing Kilkenny at the forefront of Ireland’s quality food culture revolution. Much progress has been made to date on a countywide basis with Thomastown winning the coveted title as Kilkenny’s ‘Town of Food’

The Town of Food project has become a major community led initiative supporting the production and promotion of local, quality food ingredients in the county. The latest development includes the establishment of a Food Campus in Thomastown.  The Food Campus will incorporate a Chef Training Kitchen and Community Kitchen which is currently being developed in the former Boys’ National School in Thomastown, a site associated with education for almost 100 years.

Starting in September 2015 the Town of Food will be offering a fully accredited Chef Training Course at the Food Hub. Participants will benefit from a professional work placement in a hotel or restaurant to enhance their skills.

KLP approved a total funding package to the Town of Food project of up to €647,500 for building works, marketing, training and project coordination.
