Community Development Project

 

Job title:                      Project Co-coordinator

Hours: Full-time post 35 hours per week (flexible working hours)

Contract:                    1 year (subject to funding)

Responsible to:          KTCM Board of Management

Salary:                         Commensurate with Experience

Key aim of the post:

To support the continued development of the KTCM and the KTCM board of management to implement the KTCM Community Development Project and contribute to the objectives of the Community Development Programme nationally.

 

This will involve:

  • The development of community development responses to a range of social, economic and environmental concerns.
  • Facilitating collaborative approaches that empower those involved
  • Building strong community relationships and undertaking cooperative initiatives between Travellers and other marginalised groups, mainstream services and decision-making bodies
  • Showcasing and profiling the benefits of an autonomous approach to community development in relation to existing, new and emerging issues.

 

The Project Coordinator and the Community Development Worker will use community work approaches and methodologies based on the All Ireland Standards for Community Work.  

 

General Duties

  1. Develop participative approaches to disseminate and discuss the needs assessment undertaken by the Kilkenny Traveller Interagency Group (KTIG) in 2021 to enable a clear understanding of the needs identified by Travellers living in the county.
  2. Using the KTIG needs assessment and action plan as a basis, engage with Travellers across county to engage Travellers in the action plan to address the needs identified and develop a KTCM plan of action.
  3. Examine the existing structures and mechanisms for ongoing engagement of the Travellers across the county and identify the effectiveness of same.
  4. Establish new structures and mechanisms for engagement of Travellers with the existing partners as needed.
  5. Develop and disseminate resources and support materials including policy briefing documents, reports etc.
  6. Engage in the development of KTCM policy positions and submissions, in line with KTCM aims, objectives and strategic priorities.
  7. Promote the aims and objectives of KTCM across a range of sectors and strengthen links with like-minded organisations including Community Work Ireland, as the national community development membership organisation.
  8. To attend, resource, support and report to the KTCM Board of management meetings and provide reports in relation to the Community Development Project
  9. To attend KTIG meetings and profile the work of the KTCM and act as advocate along with Traveller representatives on the KTIG.
  10. To support the Community Development Worker(s) in identifying and carrying out their duties and providing supervision of same.
  11. Coordinate and develop projects/programmes of work such as the Afterschool’s Project, training and development programmes and youth and cultural activities.
  12. To work with the Community Development Administrator to undertake the financial and governance oversight of the project.
  13. Where relevant, represent the KTCM in various fora and in general, strengthen the representational capacity of the KTCM.
  14. Support and establish KTCM Subgroups as needed as part of the implementation of the KTCM work plan.
  15. Any other duties agreed with the KTCM Board.
