The Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership would like to invite you along to Kilkenny’s first Canoeing Ireland Club Championships this weekend. This event is part funded by Kilkenny LEADER Partnership.
Over 400 competitors from 19 clubs across the country will be joining us to go head to head in the many different competitions taking place. It’s going to be a white-knuckle affair with Wild Water Racing and Slalom taking place in Clashganny (just outside Borris) and surfing the waves in Tramore with all three events starting at 9am on Saturday morning.
The activity moves into Kilkenny with three water polo pitches in place on the Nore between Greens Bridge and Johns Bridge on Saturday afternoon from 1pm turning the Nore into one big playground in the city!
The action on Sunday will all be focused around the city centre with competitors taking to the water at 9am for Marathon, Freestyle and Boater Cross/Extreme Race events. Kilkenny would seek to do well in the freestyle with two members of Kilkenny clubs representing Ireland in these disciplines. The Sprint event will take place at 1pm which should prove to be an exciting event. Viewing points for the events include Johns Bridge, Greens Bridge and Kilkenny’s new Lady Desart Bridge.
For those who would like to try out some activity on the Nore, there will be a FREE rafting event from Johns Bridge. We will provide the boats, paddles, buoyancy aids and helmets and participants just need to bring clothes and runners that they don’t mind getting wet! Rafting taster sessions will last about 20 minutes and will include a descent of the Castle Weir and a timed run of the Club Championship race course. There will be an instructor in every raft so grab 4 friends and come join in the fun.
We would also like to invite you to attend the prize giving ceremony at Kilkenny Aqua Canoeing Club at Johns bridge at 3:30 pm to come along and cheer for the weekends brave competitors.
