The Traveller Primary Care Team has recently completed the recording of a new DVD, which will be used as an educational tool to inform their traveller peers on health related issues and behaviours.
The team is coordinated by Kilkenny LEADER Partnership (KLP) development officer Siobhan Teahan, and consists of twelve women from the Traveller Community. The team members have each completed the necessary training requirements to equip them with a level of skills and experience to provide health care suitable to meet the needs of their community. Their goal is to encourage healthy lifestyles and promote preventative measures, which will improve the health status and quality of life of the Kilkenny Traveller Community.
Any interested organisations who wish to avail of Traveller Cultural Awareness Training please contact Siobhan Teahan: 087 3241571.
This project has been supported by the Kilkenny County Council Community and Culture Section as part of their commitment to Social Inclusion, and was facilitated by the Health Promotion Department of the HSE.
