From climbing and hiking, to canoeing and river safety, the Outdoor Sports and Recreation Adult Education Course has everything for the outdoor enthusiast. Designed with employment opportunities in mind, it targets individuals who wish to work as outdoor sports instructors or develop their own business in the tourism sector. The course is funded by the Outdoor Tourism Project (Kilkenny), which is coordinated by Kilkenny LEADER Partnership (KLP).
This intense FETAC Level 5 Course offers fantastic opportunities. Students who complete the course will be awarded three Instructor/Coach Awards; Canoe Instructor Training (Canoeing Ireland), Low Land Leader Award (Mountaineering Ireland) and Foundation in Cycling Coaching Award (Cycling Ireland). They will also be awarded five personal skills awards, which includes; the Canoe Skills Award, Kayak Skills Award, Stand up Paddle Boarding Award, Rescue Emergency Care III and the First Aid River Safety & Rescue II.
In addition, all participants will engage in a two-week work placement in an outdoor activity centre in Wales at no extra cost to the students.
This course is an the initiative of the Outdoor Tourism Project supported by Kilkenny LEADER Partnership and is funded by the Ireland / Wales Programme. KLP hopes the pilot course will lead to the development of a full time sports & recreational course in Duiske College.
